This is a lightweight battery based on advanced Polymer Lithium Ion (LiPo) chemistry, which offers the highest energy density currently in production. Each cell provides a nominal output of 3.7V at 850mAh capacity, making it a dependable and efficient power source. The battery includes built-in overcurrent protection circuitry, providing an added layer of safety for powering general electronics and low-to-moderate current applications. Like its counterpart without overcurrent protection, this battery comes terminated with a JST PH 2.0 connector; however, it is important to note that the wiring to the JST connector is reversed compared to most similar batteries on the market. This means the positions of the positive and negative leads on the connector are swapped. This configuration is designed specifically for compatibility with Featherweight and Altus Metrum Electronics.

Battery includes built-in protection against overcurrent. This LiPo battery is equipped with a protection circuit designed to prevent dangerous outcomes caused by excessive current draw, such as overheating or a chemical fire. For general use cases, this safety feature provides peace of mind and ensures that the battery will cut off the current in situations like short circuits or sudden high-current draws, potentially saving connected electronics from catastrophic failure.

However, while the overcurrent protection is a valuable feature for general electronics, it may occasionally activate during specific high-demand applications, such as pyrotechnic events in rocketry, depending on the type of igniters used. For example, using Firewire or J-tek igniters—which have inherently low current draw—makes it unlikely that the overcurrent protection circuit will engage. But it is still possible in rare cases, particularly if igniters or associated wiring experience unexpected issues, such as shorts after ignition. Users should be aware of this possibility when choosing this battery for time-critical applications like dual-deployment flight computers or altimeters.

This battery is an excellent choice for powering electronics and low-risk rocketry applications, where a stable and reliable power source with added safety is critical. The protection circuit offers a good balance of functionality and safety, minimizing risks associated with high-current events while still delivering sufficient power for most hobbyist and professional projects. However, users considering this battery for pyrotechnic rocketry events should evaluate the current requirements of their setup to ensure compatibility with protected LiPo batteries.

Note: Be careful with the JST connectors. They can stick in pretty good and tugging on them can damage the connector.
